What Hiring Managers should look out for

Read this article today, and had some thoughts I wish to write it here. By the way, Richard, I’m a fan of yours!

I once went into an interview many years ago, and needless to say, I kinda “flunked” it. A series of ambiguous questions were given to me, and my answers were – from an optimistic perspective – not very much what a manager looking for “yes man” would want to hear. In short, I failed the interview – according to him – because my answers were not what he wanted, instead of perhaps, I don’t know, discuss with me what were my views, and also letting me know what were his.

My opinions were never a concern for him, but his was. He was finding someone who would do as he say, right or wrong.

I left the room feeling kinda down – after all it was a pretty big firm that most job seekers would love to be given a chance to join. But when I recalled what took place, I felt more glad than upset that I did not get the job.

I’m just not a “yes man”, and that makes me a less than pleasurable guy to work with for the managers who are looking at nothing but stable job and income. I am sure I’d be going to stir their self-perceived bucket of clean water with mud settled at the bottom for years that they might have selectively chosen to ignore.

While he was interviewing me, I was interviewing him too. And I count my blessings that I did not get to work with him, and that makes me where I am – running few setups at the same time, counting my money in the bank and making friends with my clients.

Am I tired? You bet I am. Am I overworked? Well, sometimes I just can’t get to sleep with all those thoughts in my mind.

But what do I hold in my hands?

My own future.

He’s sensitive to bullshit, and he hates mediocrity in most people. He is the author of his self-published book: Facts and Fiction of Fengshui: Facts that Masters are NOT Telling You. He doesn’t have Facebook or Twitter, because he hates to be associated with people who tend to be passive-aggressive online, but he does have a very limited set of vocabularies, terrible grammar, a twisted mind that makes himself God in his own twisted world and an ability to communicate with people who wish to be his friend.
