Woeful Wednesday: The Prodigal

The clicks from the mouse heard in the silence

He strains his eyes, reading every lines with defiance

From the Facebook statuses he sees,

Happy photos in front of him, green with envy

Pacifying his heart, he thinks he’s better,

Hell, who will know if he is poorer

Holding in his hands, a stack of papers

Looking at the bills he’d collected as a waster

Spending money hoping that he’ll look rich

Going overseas paying everything on credit

Checking the repairs he has to pay

For a car that he doesn’t drive everyday

A new car is not what he can afford

A used luxury brand is better than to walk

Alone in the dark, he’s still scrolling

Hoping to find someone who’d be complaining

About money they wish they could have

Such a way that would make him one step ahead

In the middle of the night, he just can’t sleep

Maxing all his cards, he is this deep

Middle of the month, that’s where he’s at

An empty bank account, that’s what he has

A wardrobe of nice clothes he had bought

An image is important, that’s what he thought

Shoes too worn, yet he can’t bear to throw

Wallet’s too thin, for him to step into Pedro

Staring at the screen, everyone is his enemy

For they seem to have, problems less than him

He hates to think he lacks the courage

He believes he has nothing to leverage

Leaving his job is the last he’ll think

For no one else will be paying this much to him

Cul-de-sac, that’s where he’s at

For the foolishness he hoped he didn’t have

Managing money, he should’ve learnt sooner

He hates to be reminded he’s a prodigal

He closes his laptop, walking back to sleep

Tears gradually, rolling down his cheeks

41c1d-originalAndy Lawson is the average man on the street that you’ll not even trouble yourself looking at him if he passes by you. He’s sensitive to bullshit, and he hates mediocrity in most people. He is the author of his self-published book: Facts and Fiction of Fengshui: Facts that Masters are NOT Telling You. He doesn’t have Facebook or Twitter, because he hates to be associated with people who tend to be passive-aggressive online, but he does have a very limited set of vocabularies, terrible grammar, a twisted mind that makes himself God in his own twisted world and an ability to communicate with people who wish to be his friend.
